The Grand Canyon women's swimming and diving team hosts California Baptist on Saturday at the Fr. Edward A. Reese Aquatic Center.
The Lopes and Lancers last met on Jan. 25 in a closely contested 163-136 victory for the Lopes in Phoenix. GCU was powered by sweeps in the 100-yard backstroke and 200 breaststroke. Additionally, the women's divers swept the 1-meter dive portion of the meet.
At last year's WAC Championships, the Lancers edged the Lopes 579-561 for runner-up honors behind Northern Arizona.
Last week, the GCU diving squad was in action at the Lumberjack Invitational, hosted by NAU. Lopes freshman
Lizzy Mcknight just missed a NCAA zone qualifying score in the 3-meter dive. Junior teammate
Nicole Yeakley was also in action and gained experience for the conference meet.
The swimming team produced strong times in its opener at Arizona. Redshirt junior
Emily Muteti led the way for the Lopes and was named WAC Women's Swimmer of the Week. Muteti set lifetime bests in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. She also captured the 100 butterfly against a strong Wildcat squad.
