Alyson Schwartz were named WAC Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 6-12.
The Lopes competed in Flagstaff, Ariz., at the Friday Night Duels meet in their first competition of the indoor season.
Xydona, a senior from Greece, took eighth place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.14 seconds, placing her first in the WAC this season. She also competed in the 200-meter event. She placed 13th with a time of 25.74 seconds, which placed her second in the WAC this season. Additionally, Xydona took fourth place in long jump at 5.68 meters, which is second best in the WAC.
Schwartz, a junior from Phoenix, finished second in the pole vault with a WAC-best jump of 3.81 meters.
Sophomores
Trey Johnson and
Jorden Okyere were notable nominees for the men's side. Johnson holds first place in the WAC for his 60-meter dash time. Okyere shined this week with a 15.82-meter shot put throw, which marks second in school history and first in WAC. He also surpassed a school record in the weight throw event with a distance of 17.49 meters, which is also first in WAC.
The Lopes head back to NAU on Friday for the Lumberjack Team Challenge.
