Carolina Sandstrom of the Grand Canyon women's golf team will participate this week in Stage I of Q-School for the LPGA Tour this week.
"This opportunity for Carolina is incredible for her and our program," Lopes head coach
Lauren Giesecke said of the LPGA qualifying event. "She made the cut at her latest LETASÂ (Ladies European Tour Access Series) tournament in Sweden and I think that should help with her confidence going into Q-School."
Sandstrom, the 2019 WAC Championship runner-up, will tee up against some of the best young players Thursday through Sunday at Mission Hills Country Club and Shadow Ridge Golf Club in the Palm Springs, California, area.
"Carolina is extremely dedicated to her game and wants to continue her golf career and become the best golfer she can be during her final season at GCU and beyond," Giesecke said. "We have worked hard over the years with Carolina and this experience will be a huge jump into the next steps for her and her game."
The LPGA/Symetra Tour Qualifying Tournament is a three-stage process (Stage I, Stage II and LPGA Q-Series) to determine membership status on the LPGA and Symetra tours for the following year.
"This is a great showing for GCU, as she will be our first D-I golfer to participate in Q-School," Giesecke said. "I'm so excited for her and the upcoming season."
