SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Grand Canyon track and field team concluded its masterful season at the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Eight athletes represented GCU over three days of competition in the Lopes' second season at Hornet Stadium.
On the first day of competition, GCU senior
Adrian King finished 4 centimeters from qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the long jump, taking 14th place. King ranks second all-time in GCU history in the long jump after winning his first WAC crown on May 10.
Lopes redshirt freshman
Trey Johnson fouled on his first jump and did not take his subsequent two attempts.
Later on Thursday, sophomores
Knowledge Omovoh and
Alexa Hokanson ran in the 400- and 800-meter races. Omovoh finished in a time of 55.58 seconds in the 400 and Hokanson, battling illness, finished the 800 in 2:10.02.
On Friday, GCU junior
Jesse Newman, making his second trip to Sacramento, threw 65.56 meters in the javelin to finish 17th.
Two vaulters jumped in the preliminary round for the second straight year. Sophomore

Madelyn Lundberg.
On the final day of competition Saturday, GCU senior

The Lopes will not send a representative to the NCAA Championships after sending three last year. They end their season with two women's WAC titles, a men's team conference title, eight outdoor school records and eight indoor school records.
GCU's streak of 24 meets with a broken or tied school record also came to a close. The streak began on April 14, 2018, when three records broke and continued through May 11, 2019.
