The Grand Canyon women's tennis doubles pair of junior
Celia Morel and sophomoreÂ
Autum Prudhomme were named WAC Doubles Players of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
The No. 3 doubles pair finished WAC play 5-0 and were the first GCU duo to go undefeated in conference play since
Alexandra Petrzalkova and
Kylie Waschuk went 5-0 in 2016. Their 10-6 overall record also led the team this season.
Last week in Chicago, the pair went 2-0 against Chicago State and UT Rio Grande Valley. Against the Cougars on April 5, Morel and Prudhomme finished their match first with a 6-4 win.
The Lopes went on win the doubles point and claimed a 6-1 dual victory. Coupled with a UTRGV loss earlier that day to UMKC, GCU clinched the WAC regular-season title for the second time in three years.
The next day against UTRGV, the pair clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win. The Vaqueros won 4-3, but the Lopes clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the WAC Tournament, which begins April 26 in Brownsville, Texas.
