The Grand Canyon women's tennis team wraps up nonconference play when it hosts Idaho State (5-6) on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the GCU Tennis Facility.
The Lopes (4-7) last played a match on March 4 at home against Portland, a close 4-3 win. After GCU took the doubles point, Portland won three of five singles matches to tie the score at 3-3. The match came down to No. 1 singles, where junior
Emilia Occhipinti clinched the team win in a third-set tiebreaker after she battled back from losing the first set.
After the win over the Pilots, the team traveled to Santa Clara and San Jose State but both matches were canceled due to rain.
The Lopes own a 6-1 advantage over Idaho State, including a 3-0 record at home. The two teams played each other five times from 2014 to 2017 with the Lopes winning the last matchup at home. The Bengals will play a match at Arizona Christian on Monday before coming to GCU on Tuesday.
The Lopes will use this match as a final tune-up before hosting a WAC cluster this weekend. GCU will welcome all five WAC opponents to the GCU Tennis Facility for eight matches from Friday through Sunday.
The Lopes will play at noon on Friday and Saturday against Seattle U and Kansas City, and then at 1 p.m. on Sunday against New Mexico State.
