The Grand Canyon men's golf team made an early climb during the final round of the GCU Invitational before settling for a ninth-place finish on Saturday at GCU Championship Golf Course.
UMKC won the team title with an 829 (23 under par) score to win by 14 shots over UT Rio Grande Valley (843). UTEP (844), Missouri (844), Pacific (852) and Northern Colorado (852) rounded out the top five.
The individual co-medalist winners went to McCain Schellhardt (205) of Kansas City and Derek Kim (205) of Columbia.
GCU's top finisher was
Trevor Lampson in 19
th place with a 211 total.
Michael Salazar finished in 24
th place with a 212 mark.
Filip Lundell (217),
Jake Chanen (217) and
Matthew Braley (219) rounded out the team's scoring players.
GCU also had five individuals participating.
Max Sekulic led the way with a 214 total.
Carson Little (215),
Nick Hedman (216),
Adam Veenstra (216) and
T.J. Nolan (224) also played for the Lopes.
GCU is back in action on April 8-9 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
