Occhipinti earns 5th WAC honor

Top GCU singles player completes 2-0 weekend
For the fifth time this season, Grand Canyon junior Emilia Occhipinti earned a WAC Player of the Week honor.
This week, the junior from Ragusa, Italy, was named WAC Singles Player of the Week after a 2-0 weekend from the No. 1 singles position.
This is Occhipinti's third singles weekly honor while also collecting two doubles honors with partner Celina Buhr.
Over the weekend, Occhipinti won both her matches and helped the Lopes get a win at home against Sacramento State on Sunday.
Against Liberty on Saturday, Occhipinti defeated Lara Soares 7-6, 6-1 and then defeated the Hornets' Carolina Chernyetsky 6-2, 6-2 the next day at home in a 5-2 GCU win.
Occhipinti and the Lopes will be back in action at home next Monday against Portland.
