STOCKTON, Calif. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team finished in sixth place Wednesday at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, its final tournament of the fall season.
The Lopes closed the 16-team event strongly by shooting a third round of 282, their best round of the tournament and the third-best team score of Wednesday's third round at The Reserve at Spanos Park. GCU's score was its best round of the tournament, moving up four places in the team standings over the past two days.
With a total score of 859, GCU came within three strokes of No. 35 Long Beach State (856) in fifth place. San Jose State won the tournament with a total score of 848, beating out No. 5 BYU by three strokes.
Sophomore
Matthew Braley led the Lopes by tying for 10th place and shooting a 4-under-par 68, which tied for Wednesday's fourth-lowest score. He moved up 21 places with his final round, which included five birdies and one bogey.
GCU seniors
Trevor Lampson tied for 20th place after finishing with a 1-over 73 on Wedesday, when senior teammate
Jake Chanen made up ground with a 2-under 70 to reach a tie for 22nd place. Senior
T.J. Nolan tied for 34th by also going below par Wednesday at 1-under 71.

GCU landed in seventh place after shooting a 284, making a big push on the back nine Tuesday to rise in the team standings.
Lampson was the team leader after he tied for ninth place on Tuesday with an impressive second round of 4-under 68.

Michael Salazar (72), Nolan (72), Chanen (72) and Braley (73).
The leader of Tuesday's round was No. 5 BYU with a score of 276, followed by a three-way tie at 281 among San Jose State, Nevada and UC Irvine.
Day 1 recap
GCU shot a 293 on Monday to be in 10th place as part of a 10-team group that is separated by only 11 strokes.
Braley led the Lopes with an even-par 72 to be in an 11-way tie for 14th place individually.
Other GCU scores included Salazar (73), Lampson (74), Chanen (74) and Nolan (75). Salazar's round included an eagle on the 540-yard sixth hole.
San Jose State led the tournament at 282 (6 under par) with No. 35 Long Beach State (286) and Sacramento State (288) rounding out the top three.
