Grand Canyon sophomore swimmer
Samuel McKenzie won WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. This is the first career WAC weekly honor for McKenzie.

McKenzie, a sophomore from Christchurch, New Zealand, took first place in three individual events over the weekend at Seattle U. He won the 100-yard freestyle on Friday and Saturday with times of 45.97 and 45.61 seconds. On Saturday, McKenzie took home the 200 freestyle win with a time of 1:42.19. He took second place in the 50 freestyle in 21.39, just five-hundredths of a second behind the first-place winner.

He also helped the Lopes to a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:06.08) on Friday and a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:26.86) on Saturday.Â
McKenzie ranks fifth in the WAC in the 100 freestyle and 11th in the 200 freestyle.

The Lopes men's next competition is their home opener against Air Force on Nov. 8-9 at Fr. Edward Reese Aquatic Center in Phoenix.
