EDINBURG, Texas – Grand Canyon men's soccer recorded its sixth shutout of the season with a 0-0 double-overtime draw at UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday night. GCU's fourth tie of the season is the program's most since the 2008 Lopes finished 8-7-4.
GCU (4-4-4, 1-2-3 WAC) outshot UTRGV (7-3-1, 3-2-1) by three, taking 10 shots with four on goal compared to the Vaqueros seven shots with three on goal.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the first half, taking only three shots apiece in the first 45 minutes of the match. Sophomore forward
Calvin Kissi got the Lopes started with an offensive effort in the 18th minute, sending a shot over the top of the goal. The Vaqueros responded with their first shot in the 31st minute, putting it off goal to the left.

Jaime Delor each put a shot on goal for GCU in the first half, with Canales' shot coming in the 41st minute and being stopped at the bottom center and Delor shooting in the 44th minute to the bottom left for another save by UTRGV goalkeeper Andy Rios.
The Vaqueros came out with the first shot of the second half at 57 minutes, putting it on goal to give sophomore goalkeeper
George Tasouris his first save of the match. Tasouris finished the match with three saves and earned his sixth shutout of 2019. He has recorded 15 shutouts in 31 career starts for GCU.
Lopes sophomore forward
Bert Wilton took a shot in the 67th minute, sending the ball off the left post. Three more Lopes took shots in the second half, with sophomore defender
Tyler Hughes taking two in the 71st and 80th minutes. None were able to secure a goal, sending the match into overtime.
Junior midfielder
Justin Rasmussen took the Lopes' only shot of the first overtime, being stopped at the bottom center of the goal. The Vaqueros missed their one shot of the period to push the match to a second overtime.
Kissi took the only shot for GCU in the second overtime, missing the goal and leaving the score at 0-0. Tasouris made one last save in the 109th minute to keep the Lopes in a tie.
GCU returns home on Friday to take on Houston Baptist for Kick or Treat night at GCU Stadium.
