Grand Canyon swimmer
Daniil Antipov was named WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 1-7.
Antipov, a senior from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, recorded the top time in the 100-yard butterfly in the WAC this season. He posted a time of 47.66 seconds to earn the top spot in the conference and record a first-place finish on Saturday against California Baptist and Wyoming. Antipov also finished first in the 200 butterfly, recording a time of 1:50.82, and helped the 200 medley relay to first touch the wall at 1:31.34. GCU defeated California Baptist 175-125 and Wyoming 157-143.
Antipov's fastest time of 1:42.35 in the 200 butterfly currently ranks as the 10th fastest time in the world and the fastest in the WAC.
The Lopes head to Provo, Utah, this weekend to take on BYU on Saturday at 10 a.m. (Phoenix time).
