Long jumper wins event, WAC award in 1st collegiate performance
Grand Canyon long jumper Trey Johnson accomplished a long list of firsts this weekend at the New Mexico Team Challenge.
The redshirt freshman made his collegiate debut, won the long jump with the WAC's second-best mark of the season and earned the conference's Athlete of the Week award.
The Tolleson (Ariz.) High School product won the long jump with a 7.37-meter leap, his first jump of the day and his first attempt in a GCU uniform.
Johnson won the long jump and 100-meter dash at the Arizona Division I state championship meet and the Arizona Meet of Champions meet in 2017.
