Nikolaev wins 3rd WAC honor

Nikolaev wins conference Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 8-14
Senior Mark Nikolaev was named WACÂ Men's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 8-14, following the Lopes' 169-130 victory over BYU in Provo, Utah.Â
The senior from Seltso, Russia, collected four victories against the Cougars, winning three individual events and also contributing to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
His first win came in the 100 backstroke, setting a BYU pool record with a time of (46.78 seconds). His other two individual wins came in the 200 backstroke (1:47.85) and the 200 individual medley (1:50.35).Â
Nikolaev holds the best time in the WAC for the 100 and 200 backstrokes and the 200 individual medley. He also leads the NCAA in the 100 backstroke with a time of 44.41, ranks 13th in the 200 backstroke (1:40.81)Â and ranks ninth in the 200 individual medley (1:43.43).
Nikolaev also won the WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honor on Oct. 9 and Nov. 20. Teammates Daniil Antipov and Mazen Shoukri also have won the award this season.
