FINAL RESULTS
ERIE, Colo. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on Tuesday.
The event was won by host Colorado with fellow Pac-12 member Utah finishing as runner-up. CSU Fullerton, Wyoming and the Lopes rounded out the top five of the 16-team field.
GCU was led by senior
Filip Lundell, who led for most of the first round. Lundell fired a bogey-free 67 to open the tournament. He finished as the top GCU individual, taking 24
th place overall with a 3-over-par total of 219.
Lopes freshman
Matthew Braley recovered from an opening round of 79, finishing with rounds of 70 and 72 to finish in 31st place at 221.
GCU juniors
Trevor Lampson and
Jake Chanen tied for 38
th place with totals of 223. Junior
Michael Salazar finished in 51
st place with a 225 total.
GCU (878) finished ahead of WAC participants California Baptist (885, eighth place) and Utah Valley (890, 10th place).
GCU is back in action at the Cullum Invitational on Oct. 15 and 16. The tournament is hosted by Cal State Northridge at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
