SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team finished fourth in a 17-team field Tuesday at the Cullum Invitational in Southern California.
The Lopes started the day 11 shots behind the leader and cut the deficit to two shots before settling for a fourth-place finish.
GCU fired its second consecutive round 281 (7 under par) in the final round. Tuesday's score was tied for second best on the day, trailing only tournament winner Boise State. The Broncos shot 16 under par on the final day to win the event with a score of 843 (21 under par).
CSU Fullerton (851) was the runner-up, followed by California-Santa Barbara (852), GCU (854) and Utah State (866).
Utah Valley was the only other WAC school in the field and finished with an 882, which was 28 shots behind the Lopes.
Matthew Braley led the Lopes with a tie for fourth place. The freshman fired rounds of 69, 72 and 68, which put him at 7 under par for the tournament. Braley finished just four shots behind medalist winner Brian Humphreys of Boise State.

Filip Lundell was GCU's next best finisher in 17th place (216), followed by junior
Trevor Lampson in 23rd
place (217) and junior
Michael Salazar (218) and junior
Jake Chanen (220).
GCU is back in action on Oct. 20-21 at the Pepsi Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.
