RESULTS DAY 1
PUERTO VALLARTA – The Grand Canyon women's golf team experienced both highs and lows during the first 36 holes of the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
GCU opened with an impressive 294 first-round score which placed it 3
rd in the field of 12, ahead of nationally ranked programs like No. 30 Wisconsin, No. 48 Kennesaw State and tied with No. 46 San Diego State.
A tough second round saw the Lopes drop to 12
th place, but still within striking distance of several schools. With a 602 two-round total, the Lopes are just five shots behind 7
th-place Kennesaw State at 597. GCU is also three shots behind conference rival New Mexico State.
The story of the first round for GCU was
Carolina Sandstrom with an opening 69. More impressive was she overcame a triple-bogey with six birdies in her round.
Overall,
Siripatsorn Patchana is in 12
th place with a 146 total, followed by
Deanna Salvatori in 23
rd place with a 149 total. Sandstrom is in 38
th place with a 152 total.
Courtney Vogel finished with a 155 and
Wendy Monfort came in at 166.
Alexis Linam is playing as an individual and shot 157.
Arizona leads the tournament with a 570 team total, led by Bianca Pagdanganan with a 137 score.
GCU is back in action for the final 18 holes tomorrow at El Tigre Golf and Country Club.
