FINAL RESULTS
LIHUE, Hawaii – The Grand Canyon men's golf team moved up each day and finished the 20-team John Burns Intercollegiate in seventh place at Wailua Golf Course.
In what was the strongest field this season for the Lopes, GCU entered the tournament as the 12
th highest rated team in the field according to Golfweek rankings. GCU finished ahead of notable programs in BYU, Utah, Long Beach State, Fresno State and Washington State.
No. 4 Texas A&M claimed the team title with a big final round and 835 total score (-29). North Carolina and UNLV tied for second place, while Virginia and Arizona rounded out the top five.
Vinnie Murphy was GCU's top finisher, recording another top-10 finish. The senior shot a pair of sub-par rounds to finish 75-67-70, good for a 212 (-4) total.
Filip Lundell finished in 20
th place with a 215 total, followed by
Matt McClung (220),
Jake Chanen (221) and
Trevor Lampson (230). McClung had one round under par (69) and Chanen improved each day, finishing with a 69.
Max Sekulic played as an individual and finished with a 227 total.
GCU will now take a couple weeks off from competition before teeing off at the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club on March 5-6.
