RD 1 RESULTS
LIHUE, Hawaii – The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed the first day of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Wailua Golf Course. GCU started strong and ended the day in 10
th place, in the 20-team, three-day event.
Filip Lundell fired a front-nine 31 and finished with a 68 (-4), good for fourth place.
GCU had it going until the squad ran into some trouble on its final nine holes. GCU got its team score as low as -6 and up to third place, but some bogies down the stretch dropped the Lopes to a 293 (+5) score.
GCU finished just five shots behind No. 42 Arizona and three shots behind Virginia.
UNLV is the leader after 18 holes with a 207 (-18) team score. The teams are closely grouped from there with No. 4 Texas A&M in second at 283, followed by North Carolina and BYU at 284.
In addition to Lundell's 68,
Matt McClung shot 74 while
Vinnie Murphy finished with a 75.
Trevor Lampson carded a 76 while
Jake Chanen finished with 80.
Max Sekulic finished with a 76 playing as an individual.
Round two begins on Friday, with the final round of 18 holes on Saturday.
