DAY ONE RESULTS
RIVERSIDE – The Grand Canyon women's golf team finished the first day of the Battle At The Rock in sixth-place.
Deanna Salvatori shot two sub-par rounds and is challenging for medalist honors in the tournament hosted by UC Riverside.
Salvatori got it going early in her second-round, with birdies on three of her first six holes. Her spurt put her in a tie for the lead, before finishing with a second consecutive round of 71. She will enter Tuesday's final 18 in fifth-place, just two shots behind the leader, Hana Furuichi from host UC Riverside.
Carolina Sandstrom, playing at the No. 2 spot, delivered a strong second round 73, following a first round 76. She sits tied with teammate
Courtney Vogel in 22
nd place. Vogel had an under par round of 71 during her first 18.
Siripatsorn Patchana shot rounds of 79 and 79, while
Alexis Linam had rounds of 81 and 78.
As a team, GCU is in sixth-place at +21. The Lopes trail fourth-place Stetson by just six shots. Wyoming is in 10
th-place, just six shots behind the Lopes. UC Davis is the leader with a +3 score, followed by Hawaii at +9.
With the majority of the 14-teams closely bunched, it should make for an exciting final day at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside.
