FINAL RESULTS
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – After a rough first day, the Grand Canyon men's golf team shot the second best final round to finish in eighth-place at the Northern Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon.
Playing at Rich Harvest Farms, site of this past season's NCAA National Championship, the Lopes fired a final round 278 (-10), with 21 birdies and two eagles.
"Today was a great day and we were the second low round of the day, missing the low by one," said head coach
Mark Mueller. "I am very proud of this group, they really showed a lot of pride and toughness today. As coaches, we always talk about great attitudes and toughness and all five guys showed that today. We need to have a great 10 days of practice and keep this going."
Vinnie Murphy and
Matt McClung each had five-under par 67s, with both recording eagles in their rounds.
TJ Nolan had a sub-70 round coming in with a 69 which included five birdies.
Max Sekulic finished with a 75, while
Jake Chanen added a 77.
The final round 278 showed what the Lopes are capable of, after a first-round 295 and a second-round 301.
Marquette won the team title, defeating Virginia by 18-shots. The individual title was won by Oliver Farrell of Marquette. McClung finished in 12
th-place, while Murphy finished in 17
th-place.
GCU is back in action at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate on October 9-10, hosted by UMKC.
