The Grand Canyon men's golf team returns to action on Monday when it looks to defend its title at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by UMKC. This year's tournament will take place at a different course (Milburn Country Club) as the Lopes won last year's event at Creekmoor Golf Club.
Last year's victory at the Bill Ross jump started a strong year for the Lopes. GCU fired a team score of 868, holding off Kansas State for the one shot victory.
Individually,
Jake Chanen won the title with rounds of 66-71-73.
Vinnie Murphy finished fifth with rounds of 72-72-71.
This will be GCU's third fall tournament of the season. The Lopes have placed 12
th at the Ram Master's Invitational and 8
th at the Northern Intercollegiate.
At last week's Northern Intercollegiate, the Lopes put together their best round of the fall, shooting a 278 (-10) with 21 birdies and two eagles on the day.
Murphy and
Matt McClung each had five under-par 67s, while
TJ Nolan finished with a 69.
After this week, GCU will travel to the Herb WImberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, NM.
