NORFOLK, VA -- The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming and diving teams have received Scholar All-America honors by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the Spring 2017 Semester. The men achieved a grade point average of 3.49 while the women earned a 3.70, landing both programs a spot in the top five in Division I.
This year the list of Scholar All-America recipients reached an all-time high with a total of 443 schools sponsoring 720 teams that earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2017 Semester.
"We prepare our student-athletes to achieve academic and athletic excellence," Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development
Jason Linders said. "It's humbling to be recognized with so many prestigious institutions, including programs from the Ivy League, but it illustrates how our student-athletes continuously strive for excellence in the classroom, the pool, and in the community. Our faculty & staff, student-athlete development office, coaches, and administration work tirelessly to assist our student-athletes in achieving their goals, in and out of the water."
Five Grand Canyon swimmers were also named as Honorable Mention selections based on the criteria of earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and having achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.
Alyssa Christianson and
Estela Davis Ortiz received the honor for the women's team and
Daniil Antipov,
Wiktor Jaszczak, and
Mark Nikolaev were Honorable Mentions for the men.
