DENVER -- As announced by the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) today, Grand Canyon's
Mark Nikolaev was named the WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 2-8. This is his third time receiving the award so far this season.
This recognition is well-deserved following his three individual wins last weekend when the Lopes hosted Nevada-Las Vegas, California Baptist and Arizona Christian. His time of 48.28 in the 100-yard backstroke was a DI B-cut as well as the highest ranked swim in the meet according to CollegeSwimming.com. His two other first place finishes included the 200-IM (1:52.78) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.11).
In addition to his third WAC weekly honor, Nikolaev has also been named Men's Conference Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com twice so far this season. He maintains his position on top as the fastest in the WAC for the these three events.
