PHOENIX – Grand Canyon men's soccer will conclude its four-match road trip as they face Missouri State and New Mexico in the Grange and Ashwill Memorial Tournament, hosted by UNM. GCU will look to snap a two-match losing streaking after outshooting UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount 27-15 in their last two contests.
The Lopes did not have trouble generating shots this past weekend against UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount but struggled to put the ball in the back of the net. So far this season, GCU has attempted 42 shots in three games, the second most in the Western Athletic Conference thus far.
The back-line of GCU has started to develop some chemistry, allowing just two goals in the last 180 minutes played. Goalkeeper
Kendyl Day's goals against average has dropped after the road trip in California to 1.33 per contest. Stepping into the back-line and contributing against the Anteaters and Lions was
Aidan McGlothan. The junior from Gilbert, Ariz. played all 180 minutes this past weekend and attempted three shots as an outside back. The Lopes' defense have prevented the ball getting to Day at goal as GCU has the second fewest amount of saves in conference this year with eight.
After leading the team with five shots this past weekend,
Khadim Seye is tied for fourth in the WAC with four points while
Damian German is tied for eighth with three points.
Scouting Missouri State
The Bears were picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference after finishing in the same spot in 2015. After an exhibition match against Northeastern State (Okla.) the Bears have started off with a 1-1 record with a win on the road and a loss at home. After defeating Green Bay in its season opener, Missouri State is coming off a loss at the hands of Memphis. Each game Missouri State has played in has resulted in 2-0 whether it has been a win or loss. The Bear's offense has been efficient and accurate when attacking goal with a .500 shooting percentage attempting 28 shots with 14 on goal.
Scouting New Mexico
The Lobos have already faced two nationally ranked opponents in No. 15 Indiana and No. 9 Notre Dame. UNM has scored four goals this season and they have come from four different players but Niko Hansen and Chris Wehan lead UNM with three points. The Lobo's defense has stepped up in the last two matches posting back-to-back shutouts while scoring two goals each game. Jason Beaulieu has played all 360 minutes in goal for the Lobos and has posted a 0.50 goals against average, the fourth lowest in the C-USA.
