PHOENIX – The fall season continues for the GCU women's tennis team this weekend as they travel to San Diego to compete in the Aztec Fall Invitational for the fourth consecutive year. This will be the second tournament of the season for the women after competing in the Aggie Invitational last week.
Last year, GCU performed well at the Aztec Invitational in doubles competition. Partners
Lana Rinaldi and
Marie Deleval advanced to the finals in the second flight and were dubbed co-champions after the last day of play was rained out. The doubles team of
Tatum Prudhomme and
Susan Baklini won their first match to move on to the quarterfinals. Partners
Alexandra Petrzalkova and
Kylie Waschuk also had a first round victory to advance to the quarterfinals.
Individually, both Petrzalkova and Baklini advanced to the consolation finals in their draws. Deleval and Rinaldi also won matches in singles play before being defeated in the quarterfinals.
This year, the Lopes will continue to rely on the leadership of their five seniors. Prudhomme, Petrzalkova, Rinaldi, Deleval, and Baklini all will be competing in their final seasons for GCU.
Tournament play will begin on Friday, Sept. 30 and continue until Sunday, Oct. 2.
