SAN DIEGO – The GCU women's tennis team completed another successful weekend of fall play at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University. The Lopes ended the tournament with two bracket champions in doubles play and one in singles play, freshman Emilia Occhipinti.

"We were very happy with the team's play this weekend," head coach Greg Prudhomme stated. "We were up against some tough competition so to have three of our doubles teams make it to the finals with two of them winning was a great result. More importantly, our players are already making good improvements to their games from these first fall events."

In the Black Doubles bracket, it was an all-Lopes final as partners Kylie Waschuk and Alexandra Petrzalkova faced off against Tatum Prudhomme and Susan Baklini. Waschuk and Petrzalkova edged out a close 7-5 victory over their teammates to win the bracket.

The doubles team of Lana Rinaldi and Occhipinti defeated the team of Smith and Val from San Diego State 6-2 to take first place in the Red Doubles bracket.

Occhipinti also won the White Singles bracket after three consecutive victories over the weekend. Occhipinti defeated Lisa Nosenko of CSUN 6-0, 6-4 to take her second consecutive tournament.

The Lopes will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Long Beach, Calif. to compete in the Beach Tennis Tournament. Play will begin on Friday, October 7 and continue until Sunday, October 9.
