BEACH TENNIS FALL TOURNAMENT |
PHOENIX – The GCU men's and women's tennis teams will continue their fall seasons this weekend by traveling to two tournaments in California. The men are set to participate in the in the Aztec Fall Invitational hosted by San Diego State and the women will play in the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament hosted by Long Beach State.
The Aztec Invitational will be the second fall event of the season for the men's team. The schools participating in the tournament are San Diego State, San Diego, UC San Diego, UCLA, UC Irvine, Southern California, Pepperdine, and Florida Gulf Coast. Two doubles flights and two singles flights will be played beginning on Friday, Oct. 7 and continuing until Sunday, Oct. 9.
Last season, the Aztec Invitational provided the toughest competition GCU faced during the fall season and helped prepare the team for the remainder of the year. Senior Adrian Legarreta was part of the GCU doubles team that won the consolation finals last season.
The women's team will play in their third tournament of the season in Long Beach after strong showings over the past two weekends. The Beach Tennis Fall Tournament will have players from Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Cal State Northridge, Portland State, UC Irvine, Eastern Washington, University of San Diego, Cal State Fullerton, and Cal State Riverside. Play will begin on Friday, Oct. 7 and conclude on Sunday, Oct. 9.
The Lopes performed well at the Long Beach tournament last season as senior Tatum Prudhomme won three matches in singles play and Lana Rinaldi advanced to the quarterfinals of doubles play. The team will look to build upon that success this year as well.
