SCOTTSDALE – The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed play at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale. The Lopes finished 15
th as a team, in a field which featured several of the nation's best teams.
GCU was led by
Billy Comeaux with a 218 score, shooting rounds of 74, 72, 72.
Vinnie Murphy and
Jake Chanen both shot low rounds for the Lopes, firing 71's in each of the first two rounds. Murphy finished with a 222 total, while Chanen and
Grant Calender finished at 223. Calender had two eagles during the tournament, finishing tied for first in that category.
Hayden Webb came in with a 228.
Matt McClung shot 71 in each of his first two rounds playing as an individual, before withdrawing.
The Maui Jim Intercollegiate was held at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale. The par-71 course yielded an average score of 72.44 for the tournament.
Luis Gagne of LSU won the individual title with rounds of 65-65-66. LSU won the team title with an 811 team score, 41-under par. The Tigers won by five shots over Baylor.
GCU finished 28 strokes ahead of Hawaii, and just four shots behind Notre Dame.
GCU is back in action on October 3-4 at the UMKC Tournament in Overland Park, KS.
