PHOENIX – For the first time this season, the Grand Canyon men's soccer will host its first two-match weekend at home as they welcome IUPUI and Pacific to GCU Stadium. This will be just the second and third match the Lopes will play at home this season.
Putting up shots has not been a problem for GCU early this season as they have fired off 70 shots in five games, the second most in conference this season just behind Incarnate Word (77), who has played in one more game than GCU. Despite the second most shots in the WAC, the Lopes are tied for seventh for the most goals with five.
The defense is starting come along for GCU as they have allowed five goals this season, tied for the fewest amount of goals allowed in the WAC this season. GCU goalkeeper,
Kendyl Day, has played all 450 minutes in goal for GCU this season and has posted a 1.00 goals against average, the third lowest GAA in conference.
Scouting IUPUI
The Jaguars have struggled to score offensively in the first four matches of the season having only scored two goals, both in the same match against Butler. Uriel Macias and Jordan Parron are tied for the most points on IUPUI's squad with two points apiece. Out of the four matches, Josh Gray has started in goal for three with a 3.67 goals against average. The Jaguar's opponents have done their damage in the first half, scoring 11 goals in the first 45 minutes of play compared to six goals in the second half. This will be the fifth straight match that IUPUI will play on the road to open the season.
Scouting Pacific
The Tigers have been an offensive juggernaut early this season averaging 2.17 goals per contest, led by Johnatan Rico-Contreres with three goals. Eight different players have scored for Pacific this season while attempting 93 shots, the most in the West Coast Conference this season. In six matches, three different goalkeepers have played for Pacific with Curtis Goldsmith starting in five posting a 1.02 goals against average and two shutouts.
