Timmy Johnson and
Timothy Ryan had strong second days in the decathlon and
Ashley Krawczuk set a new school record in the heptathlon to lead the Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams on day two of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships in Orem, Utah.

Johnson used a first-place finish in the discus throw and pole vault Thursday to finish third in the decathlon with his 5,899 points, while Ryan came in fourth with a point total of 5,664. Ryan finished behind Johnson in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.30 meters.
The freshmen pair tallied 13 points to move the GCU men to an early second-place spot in the standings behind host Utah Valley.
En route to taking sixth in the heptathlon, Krawczuk accumulated a school record 4,349 points.
Maylea Tooze (4,233) finished seventh and
Sydney Tassielli (3,594) eighth. Tooze leaped to a second-place finish in the long jump with her mark of 5.29 meters, while Tassielli came in third.
In the lone non-multi-event of the day,
Kelsi Klotter posted a time of 39:13.59 in the 10,000-meter run to finish sixth, while
Mariah Montoya came in ninth.
On the men's side,
Sam Proctor came in seventh after recording a time of 33:06.96.
