After being idle last weekend, the Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the 21
st Annual adidas/Steve Scott Invitational Friday in Irvine, Calif. The two-day meet, which is being hosted by UC Irvine, marks the final competition for the Antelopes before the WAC Outdoor Championships.
Kelsi Klotter broke her own school record in the 5,000-meter run Friday, racing to a time of 17:49.47. Klotter previously set the school record at last year's Steve Scott Invitational.
Lacey Peterson (11:46.61) and
Rebekah Young (11:53.07) came in seventh and eighth, respectively, among collegiate competitors in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Jennifer Rolph cleared the bar at a height of 3.80 meters in the pole vault to come in sixth among collegiate competitors.
Brianne Kee leaped to a second-place finish among collegiate athletes in the long jump, recording a distance of 6.03 meters.
Kevina Godfrey came in fifth (5.62 meters), while
Aaliyah Cook's mark of 5.55 meters was good enough for seventh in the long jump.
Rylie Matthews (36.67 meters) was the fifth collegiate finisher in the javelin throw.
Nyomi Mosley turned in a season-best performance in the hammer throw, recording a heave of 47.26 meters in the event.
Kirk Jay Gould II finished first among collegiate athletes in the javelin throw, recording a toss of 54.79 meters. Gould II also came in eighth in the weight throw with his distance of 44.02 meters.
Marcus Flannigan turned in the second-best collegiate mark in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 7.06 meters.
