The Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams competed locally Friday, taking part in the Mesa Classic. The Antelopes had an impressive showing, turning in several top finishes at Riggs Stadium on the campus of Mesa Community College.
Josh Ralston, who has been impressive this spring in the quarter mile, brought home another top finish, crossing the line in conference-best time of 47.34 seconds.
LeSean Marks (52.89 seconds) raced to a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
Marcus Flannigan brought home gold in the long jump after leaping to a WAC-best mark of 7.36 meters.
Jude Olear was the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump, notching a distance of 14.29 meters.
Nyomi Mosley (Women's) and
Jesus Valasquez (Men's) both won the open division of the shot put competition to lead the Canyon throwers.
Jennifer Rolph was the top collegiate finisher in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.85 meters.
Lindsey Wright finished second in the same event.
Brianne Kee finished first among collegiate competitions in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 5.96 meters.
Andrea Olstead won the women's triple jump after posting a jump of 11.43 meters.
Aaliyah Cook came in third in the high jump with her height of 1.56 meters.
Alexandra Gilbert (56.66 seconds) and
Christine Miles (57.58 seconds) finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
Tope Williams was second among collegiate competitors in the 100, crossing the line in 11.95 seconds.
Paeden Jackson's 800-meter time of 2:17.92 was the second-fastest collegiate mark.
Mariah Montoya was the second collegiate finisher in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line in 18:16.04.
Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams posted the top times Friday, while the women's 4x100-team (
Briana Myers , Kee,
Kevina Godfrey and Williams) also came in first, combining to record a WAC-best time of 46.12 seconds.
The Lopes will split up and compete in two meets next weekend in California, competing at both the Mt. SAC Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational. Fans can find next weekend's complete schedule at
