The Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams had a strong final day of competition Saturday at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif.
Akintunde Adeyemi turned in an impressive performance in the triple jump, as the senior won the event after recording a conference-best leap of 14.81 meters.
Marcus Flannigan recorded a season-best jump of 7.01 meters in the long jump to finish fifth among collegiate athletes—his mark is the second-best leap in the WAC this season.
Cody Smith recorded a conference-best mark in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.61 meters.
Josh Ralston's time of 47.85 seconds in the 400-meter dash was the second-fastest among collegiate competitors.
Brandon Gonzalez was the fifth collegiate competitor to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:54.44, which ranks second in the WAC this season.
Jahliell Wiltshire finished fourth among collegiate athletes in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 14.81 seconds.
Anthony Phelps finished just behind Wiltshire, coming in fifth with a time of 14.85 seconds. Phelps was third in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 53.98 seconds, while
Austin Lutterloh (55.21 seconds) was fifth.
LeSean Marks, Phelps,
Isaac Allanarem and Ralston won the 4x400-meter relay after collecting a time of 3:14.37.
On her way to taking home second in the 400-meter hurdles,
Amanda Sims produced the fastest time in the conference this season (1:03.31). Sydney Madrid (1:03.79) was fourth in the same race.
Tope Williams raced to the fourth-fastest collegiate time in the 200-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 24.58 seconds—her time is the top performance in the conference this season.
Alexandra Gilbert came away with the seventh-best collegiate time in the quarter mile, finishing the 400-meter dash in 56.86 seconds.
Jennifer Rolph cleared the bar at conference-best height of 3.83 meters in the pole vault to take fourth among collegiate vaulters.
Kevina Godfrey was the second collegiate finisher in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.57 meters.
Aaliyah Cook (5.31 meters) came in third in the same event.
Andrea Olstead's jump of 11.52 meters in the triple jump secured second-place for the sophomore.
Nyomi Mosley's distance of 42.20 meters in the discus throw was good enough for sixth in the event and is the second-best mark in the conference this season.
Rylie Matthews had the fourth-best collegiate mark in the javelin throw, recording a heave of 39.99 meters, which ranks as the fourth-best throw in the WAC.
