The Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams opened competition Friday at the Aztec Track and Field Invitational in San Diego, Calif. The meet is being hosted at San Diego State University.
Emily Wilkinson ran to a new school record in the 1500-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 4:43.38.
In the open 100-meter hurdles, GCU secured the 5-8 spots with
Briana Myers taking fifth with her time of 14.79 seconds.
Ally Cuddeford was sixth after finishing in 14.83 seconds, while
Emily Shieh (14.87 seconds) and
Sydney Madrid (14.92 seconds) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Aaliyah Cook cleared the bar at WAC-best height of 1.65 meters in the high jump to take fifth in the event, while
Mally McGarity finished 10
th (1.50 meters).
Jennifer Rolph (5.46 meters) and
Andrea Olstead (5.39 meters) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump.
The quartet of Myers,
Brianne Kee,
Kevina Godfrey and
Tope Williams captured first in the open 4x100-meter relay, collecting a time of 46.70 seconds.
Jude Olear jumped to a fourth-place finish in the long jump with his mark of 6.62 meters, while
Josh Ralston placed fifth in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.90 meters. In the men's hammer throw,
Kirk Jay Gould II and
Jesus Valasquez came in 10
th and 11
th, respectively.
In the open 110-meter hurldes,
Anthony Phelps clocked a time of 15.17 seconds which was good enough for fifth in the event.
Brandon Kocmoud finished 12
th in the men's open 1500-men run after posting a time of 3:56.64, while
Sam Proctor took home a 19
th in the 5000-meter run (15:37.31).
