Marks, Williams Claim WAC Track Athlete of the Week Awards

Recognized for weekend efforts in Tucson
Grand Canyon's Tope Williams (Women's) and LeSean Marks (Men's) have been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) track Athletes of the Week for March 16-22, as announced by the conference office. Tope Williams Williams raced to a first-place finish among collegiate competitors in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 11.95 seconds. The freshman also took second in the 200-meter dash with her time of 24.65 seconds. Both of her times are the fastest in the WAC this season. In addition, Williams was a member of Grand Canyon's 4x100-meter relay team that placed second and Canyon's 4x400-meter relay team that finished fifth at the Willie Williams Classic. LeSean Marks Marks was the fastest collegiate finisher in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.57 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (52.70 seconds) at the Willie Williams Classic. Both of his times are the fastest times recorded in the conference this season. Marks was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that notched a third-place finish in Tucson.
The Lopes will travel to San Diego this weekend where they will compete Friday and Saturday at the Aztec Invitational. Fans can find more information on the 2015 outdoor track and field season at www.gculopes.com.
