PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University men's and women's swimming teams took on Seattle U and Loyola Marymount for their second straight meet today out at the Southwest Valley Family YMCA. The men's team defeated Seattle U 123-81. The women's team defeated Loyola Marymount 117-82, but had a narrow loss to Seattle U 104-100.
In the relays, the men's squad took the top time in the 200-medley and the top-two times in the 200-free. The 200-medley relay team consisted of
Mark Nikolaev,
Youssef Elkamash,
Daniil Antipov, and
Illya Glazunov who earned a time of 1:30.17. The leading group in the 200-free relay featured
Mazen Elkamash,
Jacob Lambros, Nikolaev, and Glazunov at 1:21.93, while
Iegor Lytvenok,
Tanner Brotherton,
Trent Trump, and Youseff Elkamash were close behind at 1:26.15.
The men earned first place times in seven out of the nine individual events.
Lytvenok picked up two of the seven wins in the 200-back (1:47.12) and 200-IM (1:47.74). His time in the 200-IM was an NCAA B qualifying time. Antipov and Nikolaev placed second and third in the event with times of 1:51.47 and 1:51.79, respectively.
Antipov took the top-time in the 200-butterfly (1:49.40), with
Connor Shores taking second (2:00.09), and
Trent Godfrey placing third (2:00.15).
Mazen Elkamash had a time of 1:43.19 in the 200-free, while Godfrey was just behind him at 1:43.40 for the top-times. Brotherton was first in the 50-free at 21.50 and Glazunov placed first in the 100-free at 45.02.
Mantas Auruskevicius rounded out the first place honors in the 200-breast with a time of 2:07.19.
Nathon Burwick earned a second place finish in the 1000-free (10:14.93).
The women's team won the opening 200-medley relay with a time of 1:45.84.
Iryna Glavnyk,
Kathleen Robertson,
Rebecca Coan, and
Jovanna Koens made up the winning squad. GCU placed second in the 200-free relay.
In the individual events, the women snagged three top-placements. Koens earned two of them—the first in the 50-free (23.91) and the second in the 100-free (52.34).
Angelina Mikish had the top time in the 200-IM at 2:06.78.
Glavnyk placed second in the 200-free (1:57.12), while Coan finished second in the 200-butterfly (2:07.86).
Samiha Mohsen also earned a second place score in the 200-back with a time of 2:08.90 and
Yara Fakhry earned second in the 200-breast with a time of 2:21.82.
The GCU men's swimming team will be joined by the diving team in their next home meet against Air Force on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. The women's next meet will not be until the Northwestern TYR Invitational on Nov. 20-22 in Evanston, Ill.
