Illya Glazunov (Swimmer) and
Michael Bidak (Diver) swept the Western Athletic Conference men's Athlete of the Week Awards for Dec. 29-Jan. 4, as announced by the conference office today.
This is the second weekly accolade of the season for Bidak and first for Glazunov.
Glazunov set two new pool records and took two individual victories in Grand Canyon's wins over UC San Diego and Incarnate Word. He swam the 50-free with a time of 20.17 seconds and 100-free at 44.91 seconds. He also helped the Lopes to a win in the 400-medley relay and 200-free relay. GCU's time of 1:22.23 in the 200-free relay set a new pool record.
Bidak dominated the boards with two first-place finishes helping the Lopes to a win over UC San Diego and Incarnate Word this weekend. Bidak was victorious on the 3-meter board with a score of 275.55 and took first on the 1-meter with a score of 323.90—which ranks second in the WAC this season.
The Lopes will host North Dakota Friday and Saturday at the Southwest Family YMCA in Goodyear. The Northern Colorado women will be competing against GCU and UND on Friday. The action on both Friday and Saturday is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. and fans can find more information at
