The Grand Canyon University divers opened competition Friday at the Air Force Diving Invitational inside the Cadet Natatorium in Colorado Springs, Colo. The two-day event features 10 teams on the men's side and 17 on the women's.
"Today we went against some really tough teams and I couldn't have asked for much more from the divers," said head diving coach Tracey Eldridge. "This is a very grueling diving invitational and I am expecting them to do well tomorrow because they will be competing in their strongest events."
Michael Bidak, who has already been twice named the WAC Diver of the Week this season, placed 13
th in the prelims of the 3-meter dive in a very competitive field. Bidak notched a season-best 288.85 total points with his six dives.
Michael Winfrey's 216.55 points was good enough for 24
th place in the prelims of the same event.
Rachel Adams collected a total score of 144.95 in the 1-meter dive. Adams also scored 99.25 points on the platform board Friday.
