Grand Canyon University freshman swimmer
Daria Talanova finished competing earlier this week for her home country of Kyrgyzstan at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. The Asian Games—which features 437 events across 36 different sports—kicked off Sept. 19 and runs through October 4 at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.
Talanova competed in three events while in Incheon, turning in a pair of top-10 finishes. She finished eighth in the 100-breaststroke, touching the wall in a time of 1:12.28—she swam to a time of 1:11.62 in the prelims. The freshman took 10
th in the 200-breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:38.20. In the 50-breaststroke, Talanova posted a time of 33.68 seconds which was good enough for 12
th place.
"She (Daria) has proven that she will be a major factor in our success in the coming and I can't wait to see what she will accomplish both this fall which will culminate in the Short Course World Championships for her, and then in the spring at the WAC Championships. It will be fun to watch."
Talanova's long list of international accolades includes a stop at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she competed in the 200-breaststroke for Kyrgyzstan.
