Grand Canyon fell to .500 (4-4) in dual meets with a 28-9 loss to Utah Valley in Orem, Utah Thursday.
Freshman AJ Salazar opened the meet with a win by forfeit at 125. Junior Mike Hamel picked up a 4-3 decision in the 149 class.
While Hamel was able to pick up a close decision, the Antelopes were on the short end of three matches decided by two points or less. At 141, freshman Austin Solari was downed 3-2. Frosh Austin Gaun lost a 5-3 count at 184 and junior heavyweight Peter Anguiano lost 3-1.
"I really like the fight of our young guys tonight," said coach R.C. LaHaye. "We were outgunned at a couple weights, but our younger guys really fought hard and just lost a couple close ones. We are improving overall."
The Antelopes remain in Orem for the Utah Valley Open on Saturday.
