Collegiate sports fans are all familiar with basketball’s National Invitational Tournament. That tournament serves as the second option of Division I NCAA competition for those teams that are not selected to the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Now collegiate swimming can boast of such a tournament. Beginning next season, individuals who have not qualified for the NCAA Swimming Championships will have the opportunity to compete in the newly founded College Swimming Coaches Association of America Invitational. The CSCAA Invitational will take place from March 23-25, the days in between Minnesota hosting the women’s NCAA Championship and Texas hosting the men’s NCAA Championship, in Rockwell, Tex.
Steve Schaffer, head swimming coach for GCU, played an integral role in the formation of the CSCAA Invitational. Below click on the links to Swimming World Magazine and SwimSwam.com to learn more about the invitational and see how Schaffer’s idea has become a reality.
