Grand Canyon's dual meet record fell to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 25-17 loss against Western State in Gunnison, Colo., Friday.
Each team won five matches, but WSC was able to get three wins by fall and another by major decision. GCU's only bonus points came on major decision wins by Bobby Ward and Tyrell Fortune.
Ward, a 2012 All-American and ranked No. 8 in the 149-class, defeated Corbin Bennetts 17-6. It was the third match of the meet and, at the time, gave GCU a 7-3 lead.
Fortune, ranked No. 3 in the 285-class, improved to 29-1 overall with a 14-6 victory over Kyle Graulus.
Hamel gave GCU its first win of the night with a 5-1 victory over Tyler Adams. Maynes won in sudden-victory with a 6-3 triumph over Austin Harris. McCrite, the defending 125-class national champion and currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, earned a 7-4 win over Dustin Stiegemeyer.
The Antelopes wrap up a three-match RMAC trip in Colorado with a dual Monday at CSU-Pueblo.
