The Grand Canyon University men's swim team won their fourth duel of the 2013-14 season, this time a 198.00-141.00 victory over Western Athletic Conference affiliate member Wyoming at the Siedler Natatorium in Albuquerque, N.M.
The women's squad, competing in a quad duel against host New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada, fell by scores of 242.00-88.00 to the Lobos, 268.00-77.00 to the Cowgirls, and 252.00-91.00 to the Wolfpack.
The men used eight first-place finishes in all of today's events to remain perfect (4-0) in duels this season.
Iegor Lytvenok collected four individual and two relay wins over the two-day meet to lead the Antelopes on the men's side.
The men's relay teams posted two additional victories in today's action, winning the 200-yard free relay with a swim of 1:21.73, the second-best in the WAC. The four-man squad for that race consisted of
Illya Glazunov, Lytvenok,
Michael Branning, and
Alexandr Dmitriyenko.
The 'Lopes also won the 400-yard medley relay behind the efforts of
Everton Kida,
Aslan Burbayev,
Ivan Nechunaev, and Glazunov as they raced to a time of 3:25.04, the fourth-best in the conference.
Lytvenok picked up where he left off yesterday, picking up an individual win in the 400-yard IM after touching the wall at 4:10.57. Lytvenok earned his second win of the day in the 200-back with a time of 1:51.73.
The men took first and third in the 100-yard free, led by Glazunov's swim of 45.33 to win the event and claim the third-fastest mark among WAC swimmers. Dmitriyenko took third at 46.76.
The 'Lopes swept the top-three spots in the 100-yard fly. Nechunaev took first at 50.21 seconds, followed by
Trent Godfrey (51.10) in second, and Dmitriyenko in third (52.35).
Stanislav Sakiko joined the list of GCU individual winners after beating out the competition in the 500-yard free with a time of 4:38.36. Following suit, Burbayev was also a winner, taking first in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:08.50.
For the women,
Hannah Kastigar continued to swim strong for the 'Lopes, picking up a second place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:30.88, which stands as the third-fastest in the conference.
Catherine Polito and
Jovanna Koens took fourth and fifth in the 100-yard free with times of 52.68 and 52.87 seconds, respectively. Both of those times are among the top-10 fastest in the WAC.
