Grand Canyon University’s
Inha Kotsur was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while
Kyle Shores was named the RMAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, after their recent performances.
Kotsur earned two B cut times in leading GCU to a split with UCSD and Cal State East Bay on Jan. 5 in San Diego, Calif. Her 1000 free time of 10:28.18 took first in the event, while she swam a second-best 5:06.00 in the 100 free. Kotsur was a double winner this past weekend, taking first in the 500 free (5:11.01) and 1000 free (10:36.99), in GCU’s narrow loss at D-I New Mexico.
Shores earned an individual win and a B standard in the 50 free event, swimming a 20:57, helping his team to a victory over UC-San Diego on January 5. Additionally, Shores swam on two relay teams, earning the Lopes an NCAA B time cut in both races. His 49.75-second back split kicked off the 400 medley relay team’s winning time of 3:17.54, while his 44.95-second leadoff leg of the 400 free relay propelled the Lopes to victory as well, in a time of 3:04.99.
The awards were the seventh and eighth RMAC weekly honor this season for the men’s and women’s teams.
Both the men’s and women’s squads will be in action on Jan. 19, when they will host Biola at the Brophy Complex Pool in Phoenix, Ariz. That meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
