Swimmers Climb in the Standings after Day Two of NCAAs

The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s swimming teams continued their impressive start after the second day of the NCAA Division II Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
The men are currently sitting in second place, while the women are in eighth place. The championships run through Saturday.
Swimmers finishing in the top-eight of the finals earn All American honors.
The men’s relay teams showed their depth today, placing second in the 200 free relay (1:20.09) and fifth in the 400 medley relay (3:18.12), both times establishing new school records. The 200 free squad featured Artem Tretiakov, Michael Branning, Kyle Shores and Charles Woodruff. The 400 medley team was swum by Everton Kida, Ralph Herberg, Ivan Nechunaev and Artem Tretiakov.
Branning also won the consolation finals of the 200 free, setting a new school record with a 1:38.89. Nechunaev and Shores went 1-2 in the 100 fly consolation final, with Nechunaev’s 48.58 setting a new school record.
On the women’s side Mychala Lynch swam a strong 100 fly final, finishing second with a time of 54.57.
The women’s 400 medley relay team of Caiti Hoffman, Candace Valenzuela, Lynch and Magnani took fifth with a school record time of 3:48.03.
