The No. 13 Grand Canyon University wrestling team ran their win streak to eight tonight, defeating Colorado State-Pueblo, 24-13, at Massari Arena in Pueblo, Colo.
The dual was tight throughout as the teams swapped the lead six times, with the match tied 13-13 with two matches remaining.
Kyle Wilson picked up his 11
th win of the season with a 13-9 opening match victory at 141 pounds.
After
Austen Moore dropped his match by major decision at 149,
Ted Bristol quickly regained the lead for the ‘Lopes, winning 8-4 over the Thunderwolves’ Matt Addington.
After dropping the 165 and 174 matches by decision, the Antelopes found themselves staring at 10-6 deficit at the duals midway point.

Ryan Becerra began to tip the scales back towards GCU with a tightly contested 4-2 win over Adam Carey at 184.
Eli Arizmendez continued his perfect run since joining Grand Canyon in January, cruising to a 14-5 major decision win over Levi Jutila. He improved to 14-0 on the season with the win and gave GCU a 13-10 dual lead.
After dropping the heavyweight contest to even the dual at 13-13, the night would be decided by the lower weights.
Madison Gambrell picked up his third straight win at 125, defeating Lyle Evans by fall at 5:40.
Leading 19-13, the ‘Lopes turned the match over to
Todd Wilcox. Wilcox would not disappoint, running his record to 23-3 with an 18-1 technical fall win.
With the win today, GCU improves to 12-4 in duals this season.
The Antelopes return to action on Jan. 28 with a dual against No. 9 Western State in Gunnison, Colo.
“Western State is going to be tough,” said head coach R.C. LaHaye. “They are the two-time defending conference champ and we will be venturing into hostile territory. We will have to be at our best to beat them, but we are fired up and ready to go.”
The dual will be highlighted by undefeated Arizmendez facing off against Western State’s No.1 ranked Donovan McMahill at 197. Beccera will square off against No.2 Charlie Phiper at 184.
