Grand Canyon University junior midfielder
Mitchell Garcia (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria, Phoenix College) has been named to the PacWest Men's Soccer Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll.
The award, for games played Aug. 28-Sept. 5, was announced today by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix.
Garcia scored off of a free kick at 27:32 to give the Antelopes a 1-0 lead over Montana State Billings in their season opener last Saturday at the GCU Soccer Field. GCU and MSUB played to a 1-1, double-overtime draw.
Sophomore forward
Kyle Ciliento (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle, Saint Mary's College of California) recorded a hat trick in the 'Lopes' 3-1 win over Saint Martin's on Monday, but since that effort occurred on Sept. 6 it did not qualify for this week's PacWest awards.
With a record of 1-0-1, GCU sits atop the PacWest standings. The four Hawaii schools, BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade, Hawai'i Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific, all are tied for second place with records of 1-1-0. Dominican University of California, Academy of Art and Dixie State are winless so far this season.
