AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Grand Canyon's last regular-season road trip ended with a 0-0 draw at Air Force on Sunday.
The tie was GCU's third straight, following draws with San José State (1-1) and Utah Tech (2-2). The point puts GCU at nine points and second place in the WAC standings, pending San José State-UNLV and Utah Tech-California Baptist results Sunday night and a Monday evening contest between San Diego State and Utah Valley.
The conference's top six teams earn a trip to Riverside, California, for the WAC Tournament on Nov. 9-15, where the top two seeds will receive first-round byes. GCU holds direct tiebreakers against Utah Valley and San Diego State, which is tied for third and fifth, respectively. A San José State loss to UNLV would clinch a spot for the Lopes based on total points.
GCU (8-3-4, 2-1-3 WAC ) was in full force offensively Sunday in Colorado, totaling 19 shots to tie for its second most this season. Of the 19, five were on goal, but none were able to find the back of the net as Air Force (1-11-3, 0-5-1) received five saves from goalkeeper Brody Smith.
It was a quiet night for Lopes goalkeeper
Daniel Ibarra, with credit to the defensive front for allowing only five shots and no shots on goal. GCU freshman
Junior Diouf and junior
Felipe Cobian combined for four shots, with Diouf leading the charge in shots on goal with two. The first-year forward entered the game ranked in the national top 10 for points and goals.
GCU had six corner kicks, three in each half, and was disciplined in the defensive attack with just three fouls, tying a season low.
The Lopes return to action Saturday for a 7 p.m. start time versus UNLV in the final regular-season match of the 2025 campaign. Four Lopes will be honored pregame for Senior Night, including Ibarra,
Nelson Gomez Rodriguez,
Erick Monge and
Ben Assane.
