From player of the year to All-American to MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist,
Junior Diouf has signed his first professional contract with S.K. Beveren.
Sportkring Beveren (abbreviated to S.K.) competes in the Challenger Pro League out of Beveren, East Flanders, Belgium. The Challenger Pro League is the second highest professional division in the country.
Founded in 2016, the Challenger Pro League consists of 17 clubs. S.K. Beveren currently holds the top spot in the standings, totaling 69 points, 15 points higher than KV Kortrijk in second.
From Thies, Senegal, Diouf dazzled onto the scene with an immediate impact for the Lopes who finished 14-4-5 overall and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Diouf totaled 18 goals, six assists, 79 shots, 36 shots on goal and finished with a .456 shot on goal percentage. Seven of his goals were game winners, with the first setting the stage of his dynamic and electric play.
Diouf scored the game tying goal in the 81st minute against Jacksonville in the season opener and followed that up with the game winner with 14 seconds to spare. From there, he captured the men's soccer audience with his creative footwork inside the box and his precision on net with multiple defenders around him.
With many game changing goals, none came more clutch than his 88th minute goal against San Diego in the NCAA Tournament Second Round, sending the Lopes to the Sweet 16.
His goal count finished second in the nation, leading to him being named a MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist, college soccer's most prestigious award. He also earned United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American honors – the first "first" team honoree in GCU history – and garnered TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Year honors, the first freshman in TDS history to receive the top award.
He leaves GCU has the Division I's program leader (2013-pres.) in single season goals and assists and tied for ninth for single season point total (1985-pres.).
